Dirk Vander Kooij
Dirk Vander Kooij transforms used refrigerators into design furniture. For his Endless Flow chair, he won a Dutch Design Award and the prestigious DMY award in Berlin in 2011.
As a machine hacker, he managed to turn a 30 year old technique into a completely new way of fabricating plastic furniture, without the use of any moulds. A technique that is perfectly suited for recycled plastics.
Dirk Vander Kooij works on many different concepts at the same time, not knowing if or when they will result in an actual product. He tries to come up with innovative functions that consequently dictate new forms.
Dutch Profiles is a series of short documentaries focusing on the conceptual and researchbased background of well-known icons of Dutch design, such as Rem Koolhaas, Droog, MVRDV, Li Edelkoort, Hella Jongerius, HEMA, Marlies Dekkers and Iris van Herpen. The Dutch Profiles were commissioned by DutchDFA and produced by Submarine.
