Surreal Coat

Some 3 weeks ago we wrote about an emerging trend in fashion promotion: the fashion film, and we presented our Top 5 favorite films. Another great example is Showstudio’s ‘Make Up Your Mind‘, which just launched. This outlandish 3-minute film by groundbreaking photographer Nick Knight and filmmaker Ruth Hogben is like an exersize in the uncanny (think Magritte’s The Rape or Meret Oppenheim’s furry cup). Centerpiece of this fashion short is the piece-the-resistance of Martin Margiela‘s 2009’s Spring collection, the Wig Coat – an utterly surreal garment made up entirely of platinum blond wigs. Here seductively modeled by a faceless dancer, the Wig Coat ultimately questions our traditional notions of beauty.
