“Think like a child!” – Fantasy artist Iris Compiet on how to kickstart your career as an illustrator

Iris Compiet is an award-winning Dutch visual artist with a penchant for fairies, witches, elves and everything whimsical.

Her roster of clients include Wizards of the Coast (the company behind Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons) and Harper Collins.

She’s also the author of Faeries of the Faultlines, an art book about a wondrous world brimming with all sorts of fantasy creatures. Faeries of the Faultlines was a Kickstarter hit, raising more than € 100k.

A new edition of the book will be released in June 2021.

We had the opportunity to interview Iris Compiet at Playgrounds – The Art Department, an online fest dedicated to concept art and design. She discussed how she launched her career and she gave a few tips for aspiring creators.
