Time for a slow, high-arttreat after yesterday’s machinima/live action hybrid snack. Animate Projects (one of our fav 10 curated video platforms) just released online a new film by the acclaimed visual artists duo Jane and Louise Wilson.‘Unfolding the Aryan Papers‘tells the story of Stanley Kubrick‘s abandoned film project about the Holocaust ‘Aryan Papers’ for which he had cast Johanna ter Steege as the leading lady.
The Wilson’s visited the Kubrick Archive and were “intrigued to look at the detailed research for a film that never made it into production.” Apparently uber-perfectionist Kubrick got so depressedfrom his meticulous research he had to abandon the project – a big blow for Ter Steege who’d been preparing for her part for no less than 8 months. The film (17 mins.) consists of live action footage of Ter Steege edited with Kubrick’s casting photos of her, which you can also find on Animate.
